After hearing a radio report about the success of the Street Pastors project in the north of England, our Director Richard Brummitt decided to seek out further information. Once he realised what a fantastic influence this project was having on towns all around the country, he started to canvass the local churches in Bridgwater to see if there was any possibility of launching Street Pastors here.

We gathered together a core group of ministers from various churches to form our Steering Committee.  Our first decision was to bring the church leaders together to encourage, explain and envision them. And with the help of Ascension Trust we were able to clearly present the venture to 16 churches that were represented.  At the following meeting it was agreed to extend the project from Bridgwater to incorporate Burnham-on-Sea and so Sedgemoor Street Pastors was born.

During the past 9 months we have realised that Sedgemoor was in need of a community based project not a church based programme.   By going to where the people are and serving them we have an amazing opportunity to share not only in their joy, celebration but also in their pain and suffering.  This initiative is open to a wide range of believers of any age, background and denomination and our main aims are to bring hope, security and peace to our communities.

The impact and change this will bring about has already started to be felt with our Commissioning and Launch taking place on the 5th September 09 and with all of 15 Street Pastors taking to the streets in our first Patrol.
