‘Heathfield Street Pastors’, the first in Sussex
and the first rural project in the UK, is an exciting new project
sponsored by ‘Churches Together Heathfield & District’ involving
all churches in the town.
Fifteen Street Pastors together with their Prayer Support Team were commissioned in Heathfield on Sunday 11th May with the joint celebration of all the local churches at the ‘altogether@pentecost’ service. This special united service, held at the Heathfield Community College was attended by over 300 adults and children representing all the churches of the town and district.
Included in the numbers for the service, there were leading members of the community, they all listened and were ‘scripturally entertained’ by the guest speaker Rev Dr Joel Edwards, General Director of Evangelical Alliance, Broadcaster, Author & Member of Equality & Human Rights Commission. Music at the service was provided by a combined churches choir and music group.
The Street Pastors have had to undergo intensive training over nine months to prepare them for their role. Their first night on the streets of Heathfield was Friday 16th May. This project has the full support of all local Clergy including Bishop Wallace Benn, as well as local Police, Town Council, Community Services, Youth Centre, Schools, Rotary Club and other local organisations.
