We’re up and running! 44 volunteers are now trained, commissioned and patrolling the streets of Winchester each Friday and Saturday night, supported by 14 (and the number is going up all the time) Prayer Pastors. The Prayer Pastors are based at City Church in Jewry Street, right in the heart of the city, and the SPs come and go from there.
The photo shows the scene after our commissioning service but not the rain which fell all day! Les Isaac commissioned us, and the Bishop of Basingstoke blessed all volunteer SPs and PPs, before the great West doors of the Cathedral were thrown open so Les could lead us out into our city. The Lord’s presence was powerfully present. We were joined for the service by the Mayor, Leader and Deputy Leader of the City Council, and Chief Inspector James Fenton.
We are already looking at recruiting more volunteers during the autumn, before a second training course running from January to March. We will be coordinating our training with Southampton this time, which promises to be a help to both our SP initiatives and hopefully other local groups as well.
