The Dunfermline Street Pastors is an initiative being led by a number of churches in the centre of Dunfermline. The purpose is to make sure young revellers find their way home safely from the centre of Dunfermline. The benefits to the community will be a safer town centre and a reduction in the volume of social ‘fallout’ from clubs and pubs emptying en masse in the early hours of the morning. It also frees up police resources to deal with more serious incidents. The intention is to establish a social enterprise scheme in partnership with Fife Council and other agencies that will help the local community to flourish, becoming stronger, offering improved opportunities and a better quality of life. The Street Pastor Initiative went live on Saturday 6th December, beginning with a Commissioning Service at 7.30pm in Gillespie Church.
