Stalybridge Street Pastors started on 9th July 2010 following a well attended Commissioning Service at Holy Trinity church in the town. There are 21 in the current team and we are blessed to have over 20 Prayer Pastors who pray for us either at our base in Stalybridge or at home on the nights the team goes out.
We work in partnership with the police and other agencies and really value their help and support. Local churches are working well together and good relationships and friendships are being formed.
We offer practical help such as giving out flip flops, anti-drink spiking products, rain ponchos, space blankets, water etc. to the revellers in the town. We have had lots of positive feedback from the public, door staff; take away staff and police officers etc. about the difference we are making on the streets. Most cannot believe that we do this voluntarily.
As a team, we enjoy going out and working with each other. In addition to the practical side of things we have lots of laughs and fun together and get together socially from time to time.
We currently meet every Friday (apart from the 4th weekend which is a Saturday) at 9.30pm and go out on the streets of Stalybridge until 3 am. We are hoping to be able to go out on both Fridays and Saturdays from June 2011. To this aim we hope to recruit more volunteers to commence training in February.
It is possible that we might be in a position to have a team which goes out earlier, in addition to our current team, perhaps 7 pm to 11 pm depending on whether we manage to recruit more Street Pastors for 2011.
If you are interested in applying to join us or just want further information about our team please contact Angela Trewinnard. We would love to hear from you.
